Hair Show & Blogger Thoughts
Had the opportunity to attend the PUMP Hair Show and Pop-up event hosted at the Public Functionary. It’s a great space, and I don’t mind the trek to get there (for me that equals to 2 buses and 20 minutes of outdoor walking going one direction and retracing the steps going back). I had a good time snapping photos and exploring vendors. I was asked to take photos at this event, and I’m glad that I accepted. You all know I wouldn’t call myself a photographer, but I do call myself a girl that like pretty things and loves to catch it on film to share with whoever wishes to view what I shot.
It’s exciting to be in a community space with a strong representation of diversity. It felt good to be surrounded by POC creators and business owners. I don’t usually get this opportunity because I live in the suburbs with no car. Mind you it’s not really by choice but for financial survival. After speaking with vendors and seeing amazing products and services offered, I found myself glowing. Or at least I felt like I was glowing. I had an epiphany, a moment where I shifted to rediscovering why I first created a blog. I wanted to be a channel and create a network that would showcase the best of our communities. My goal has always been to share our narratives within our communities of color. I also wanted to specifically promote a narrative coming from a woman of color (*raised hand* that would be me).
Because of this reawakening, if you will, I’ve already started writing the outlines for the posts and interviews that I want to conduct and post starting next month with some of the vendors that I encountered at the PUMP Event. I’m excited because I feel like I have more to offer in the upcoming month besides the weeklies that I’ve got written. February needs to happen ASAP!
And that’s what I have for you. Thank for reading and don’t forget to leave a comment, share, or like when you feel the urge. Treat yourself and the world around you with kindness.
